Traffic Flying In, Part 2

In a recent webinar from Alex Jeffrey’s coaching class, Rich Schefren made the comment that one should buy “just in time” and not “just in case.” The point being that while building you internet marketing business you will discover what you don’t know or what you need and you can seek out the specific information that would benefit your business at the time.

If you buy ‘just in case’ you might need it someday, then you probably will never use it. Even if you do need it someday, by that time the information will most likely be out of date.

Since hearing him put product launches in that prospective, I have cut down considerably on what products I purchase. This has also helped me to focus on what it is that I am doing to grow my business and spend my time planning and implementing instead of getting into the loop of buying, reading, buying and reading and then buying some more.

What I discovered that I needed at this moment in time was a good understanding of how to drive traffic. To that end, I purchased Kim Roach’s Ultimate Blogging Challenge video series. I have spoken about Kim before — I consider her one of my mentors. In this series, Kim showed how she started a blog in a brand new niche and drove 1200+ visitors to her site in 7 days. I was going to blog about what I had learned from applying her methods, but in the meantime, she, herself, blogged about her tactics. The blog entry is called 21 Untapped Traffic Sources. Her course was amazing, and the information was timely for me.

So instead of blogging about her specific tactics, I will tell you how putting them into practice worked for me.

I put to use her information on article marketing and finding hidden forums to become members of. She stresses the importance of submitting content articles to high-profile content syndication sites — ie, sites that cater to that specific niche, instead of (or in addition to) the broader sites like ezinearticles. Likewise one should focus on very specific niche-related forums, instead of the broader category forums. Not just talking theory, she discussed specific article directories and forums for given niches, and how to find these obscure sites for whatever niche you are in.

Within a week of doing just these two strategies the traffic to my site tripled and my alexa score dropped by more than 130,000. It was pretty high to begin with — in the 2 million range, but I thought that drop, happening so quickly, and having done nothing different than implement what I was already doing, but with her twist, was pretty impressive.

One strategy that she mentioned that I had not thought about in the past was guest blogging and the power that it has to drive traffic. That is a strategy that I hope to begin to implement next week.

One cannot deny the generosity of the information that she shares. For all of the information I have gathered on driving traffic over the past six months, many of her strategies and sources were new to me, and now she is sharing them with the world.

If you want to see the details of her tactics yourself, read her blog. It will be your best read of the day.

Over-Delivering — The Key to Success

Since I have begun my internet marketing journey, I have heard so many gurus talk about the concept of over-delivering.  This idea, is, as it sounds, giving the client or customer more than expected.  While so many marketers talk about over-delivering, I have found that, given how difficult a task this is, most fall short.  Saying that you over-deliver is not the same as actually over-delivering.

As what often happens in life, the right people show up just when you need them the most.

I have had the good fortune of working with five Internet Marketers that I have found to truly over-deliver.  The first, is my first mentor, Chris Freville.  In his course 6 figures with Chris, I learned all of the nuts and bolts of Internet Marketing.  He provided both webinars for the students as a group, as well as individual mentoring for anyone who asked for it.  He gave us products to promote as our own and showed us step by step how to set them up on our own websites and how to promote them.  He also showed us how to go about creating our own products.  It seemed that weekly he was giving us bonuses to further our success online.

My second mentor is Alex Jeffreys.  In addition to traditional coaching via webinars, Alex has also set up a private forum for his students to interact and learn from each other.  He personally answers students’ questions, posts on their blogs, and again, provides us with unexpected bonuses on almost a weekly basis.  He is actually going to conduct one of his webinars while on his honeymoon!  Not sure how his wife feels about that, but I sure am happy (and amazed) that there is no lag in our training!  The information he provides is hands-on information about marketing that is working today.  Not simply theory, but techniques that work.

My third and forth mentors came as a packaged deal. They are Kyle and Carson of Wealthy Affiliate. What I love about working with them is that they, too, truly care about my success. They answer questions personally and they are constantly updating their program so that folks get the most value.

My fifth mentor did not come to me by way of a coaching opportunity.  I was introduced to Kim Roach through her first product Instant PayDay Formula.  Having bought similar products in the past, I was quite skeptical when I purchased this product, but over-delivering does not even begin to describe the quality of this product.  If you do not know much about internet marketing,  if it is overwhelming to you or if you would like to see how all of the pieces come together, this is one product that takes you through it all:  Market Research, Squeeze Pages, Traffic, Link Building, and email marketing — with over 30 videos to compliment the ebook that comes with the product.  Since then I have followed everything that Kim does, including being a part of her recent traffic challenge, in which she showed how in just 7 days time she chose a brand new niche that she knew nothing about, created a blog and created traffic that sent more than 1200 visitors to the blog in 5 days.  Again, she over-delivered throughout this challenge and beyond, as she is still sending content-packed information via videos days after the challenge ended.

What I have learned from these five mentors is how important it is to truly over-deliver when creating content and products.  These five mentors have a fan for life, in me…which of course, translates to a paying customer for life.  I have no doubt that they will always over-deliver, because they always have. It is how they do business.

What about you? Who are your mentors and what one thing have they taught you about how to become successful?
