Years ago I took flying lessons. For those who have flown their own plane they know the beauty, the excitement, the thrill as well as the peacefulness of flying. I don’t have the words to express it adequately, but it is an wonderful feeling.
One thing that I liked best about being part of this informal flying club was the camaraderie that I immediately was a part of when I begin taking lesson. It was not uncommon to land in a small airport and inquire about a restaurant and be shown the direction. It was equally as common to land in a small airport without a restaurant and have someone there offer us his car to drive 5 miles down the road to the nearest restaurant. There was just an innate trust among pilots and a genuine interest in each other and wanting to help if you needed help.
I am beginning to feel that kind of small town (while meeting folks from all over the world! — quite a trick!), genuine how can I help you feel in internet marketing as well, and it really puts my mind and my work scope and plan in a more solid place. It also makes this journey more fun, wondering who you might meet just around the corner.
Sure there are marketers out there whose only interest is making money and more and more money. But there are a lot of folks who truly want to help others learn the heart and sole of marketing as well as the business part of the business. By reading others’ blogs, it becomes clear which camp they fall into. Take the time to browse, make clear comments with good content. Plan time into your day to do this and you will see your traffic increase — much more quickly than you would have thought possible.
In module 4 and 5 of Alex Jeffreys’ course we are learning about driving traffic. One method that he talks about is commenting on others’ blogs. The most important factor is to post comments that add good, solid content of interest and value. When you add a comment to a blog, you have the opportunity to add your name and your website. When someone reads your comment and wants to know more about you, they will click on your blog or website link that you provided. Traffic flying in.
I have spent the past week week doing this — posting on perhaps 10-15 blogs per day. My traffic has tripled in that time. I honestly didn’t believe it would make any difference at all, so I was very pleasantly surprised. The other benefit of doing this is that by visiting other websites you feel part of a bigger community and you learn a lot about your own niche by reading what others are posting about and what others are commenting about. So, instead of trying to figure it all out on your own, or by learning from one or two mentors, you are learning from and becoming friends with many — perhaps over time, hundreds.
